When you consider the structure of the human neck and all that
it does each and every day, it’s surprising that neck pain
isn’t even more common. Your neck consists of seven vertebrae
with discs between each, eight pairs of cervical nerves, and
numerous muscles, blood vessels, and connective tissues. A
problem with any of these components can lead to significant
neck pain. While you might not spend a great deal of time
thinking about your neck, once neck pain arrives you may be
able to think of little else.
Some common causes of neck pain include:
- Traumatic or sports injury
- Whiplash
- Poor posture
- Arthritis
- Disc deterioration
- Pinched nerve
Neck pain can also be a sign of a serious medical condition
like meningitis or even heart attack. That’s why it is so
important to have your neck pain professionally diagnosed.
